Serving with Glacier Peak Institute is a unique opportunity to work in outdoor education and recreation in a beautiful mountain community! Enveloped in the heart of the Cascade Mountains, Glacier Peak Institute (GPI) empowers youth, community, and ecosystems to prosper and cultivate a shared resilient future through action-based outdoor education. GPI provides STrEaMs based education to rural youth (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math experienced through recreation and art to gain skills) as well as having and operating a youth forestry crew.

AmeriCorps members should be passionate about empowering at-risk youth, and willing to serve both directly and behind the scenes. These positions are vital to our capacity as we are a very small non-profit serving in an under-resourced community. This service term is designed to provide valuable professional and personal experiences. Members may receive an educational stipend and GPI will assist in finding them local housing.

Member Duties: This VISTA position will actively work towards securing funds to help end poverty through strengthening and enhancing economic opportunities and capacity for GPI and the Darrington area in order to support the at-risk youth in the community. This VISTA member will continuously work to secure funds to support GPI’s STEM education and recreational programs. This VISTA member will implement the strategic priorities from GPI’s 2021-2026 plan and the economic development plan from the Economic Strategy Grant from 2020.nThe Economic Strategist VISTA will increase GPI's capacity and program reach. Service members will: formulate and implement a consistent marketing strategy and presence through various media outlets; implement a strategic donor management and engagement system to allow for consistency in communication with GPI’s donor base; continuously working to expand, diversify, and create positive revenues for recreational tourism in the Darrington area, with a focus on it being by and for the community; continuously coordinate with staff, volunteers, and partners on funding the development of a permanent GPI facility and housing, including the launch of a capital campaign by 2024; and continuously work on securing funding for GPI’s organizations costs and programs through grant and fundraising efforts.
